The hunt for the Hicks particle

Today, 13 December 2011, physicists on the LHC’s two largest experiments announced signals consistent with the possible appearance of the Higgs boson, a manifestation (ripple) of the Higgs force field , that endows all other particles with mass. Thus far, the ATLAS and CMS experiments have each detected the results of some 500 trillion proton–proton collisions and more data will be needed to establish the existence of the Higgs with statistical confidence.
